Anna Loengard, MD

Dr. Anna Loengard is a Harvard-trained geriatrician and nationally respected physician leader with more than 25 years of experience across clinical care, healthcare innovation, and executive leadership. She founded Caring Smart to help both family caregivers and healthcare organizations navigate the complexity of care with greater clarity, compassion, and impact.

Dr. Loengard’s path to medicine began with a fascination for biology and a goal of lifelong learning. After a residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel in Boston, she chose to further specialize in geriatrics, inspired by her grandfather who taught the importance of living life on one’s own terms. As she cared for patients in their 80s, 90s, and beyond, she recognized that exceptional care required deep listening, data-driven insight, and personalized planning—the true art of medicine.

Her early career at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine Department of Geriatrics focused on improving quality of life for the most vulnerable patients and the families supporting them, particularly when cure was no longer possible. Over time, her leadership trajectory expanded. She took on the role of Chief Medical Officer in Hawaii and then nationally, building and leading physician networks and clinical care programs within successful value-based care organizations. She later served as the clinical lead for a national post-acute provider, AccentCare, guiding care delivery through large-scale mergers and the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on integration, workforce sustainability, and quality outcomes.

Dr. Loengard’s experience spans nearly every sector of healthcare—academic medicine, inpatient and outpatient settings, rural and home-based care, PE-backed and venture-funded companies, and board leadership for a publicly traded health plan. This breadth gives her a rare system-wide perspective on the drivers of care, cost, and decision-making—and a network of collaborators committed to doing better.

Dr. Loengard’s mission is not only to advise, but to be part of a broader movement toward more human-centered, purpose-driven healthcare.

“My passion is improving the healthcare experience for patients and their caregivers, all informed by my decades treating patients, leading programs, being a patient myself and caring for my loved ones.”
