Caregiver Consultations
Caring for an aging loved one can be overwhelming—especially when you’re navigating a fragmented healthcare system filled with unfamiliar terms, rushed appointments, and unclear options. Caring Smart was created to change that. Whether you're at the start of your caregiving journey or facing a tough crossroad, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
Founded by Dr. Anna Loengard—an award-winning geriatrician and nationally respected physician leader—Caring Smart offers one-on-one consultations to help caregivers make informed, confident decisions. With 25 years of experience spanning clinical care and executive leadership, Dr. Loengard brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to every conversation.
Dr. Loengard’s perspective comes from her own journey as a caregiver. Despite decades caring for the most vulnerable and frail, nothing fully prepared her for managing her father’s care from 3,000 miles away after his stroke in 2019—during a global pandemic. Like so many others, she faced daily uncertainty, emotional strain, and the challenge of coordinating fragmented care while balancing the rest of life.
Caregiver consults may help you:
Clarify goals of care and understand what’s medically possible vs. meaningful
Prepare for conversations with doctors and specialists
Evaluate options like home health, palliative care, hospice, or rehab
Navigate Medicare benefits and eligibility for key services
Access tools like advance care planning documents and state-specific forms
Make care decisions that align with your loved one’s values—and your own peace of mind
These consults aren’t about giving generic advice. They’re about giving you the clinical insight, language, and support to make decisions that are both informed and deeply human.
Caring Smart is here to help. Let’s navigate this together.
“Dr. Loengard helped us understand mom and dad's options, always with incredible compassion for both of them. She gave mom confidence to speak up with medical professionals and family members and peace of mind to know she could do what my dad would have wanted.”
K. Lakey, Hawaii
“When my sister was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroendocrine small cell cancer, my world quickly turned upside down. Dr. Loengard held my grief with me, while explaining what this meant medically in a language I could understand. I am forever grateful for her keen insights, knowledge, and care.”
L. Redmond, Oregon
